    • Nice looking dogs, Paul. As others said, good on you adopting senior dogs. Always a tough thing to do knowing you'll get attached and their time is drawing closer.

I went to go mow today. Before I did, I took out the 5w30 oil I'd just put in my mower and put in 20w50. I was convinced it had a rod knock, it was just sounding terrible. I had decided to either run it til it died or til I felt like paying a neighbor to take the rod out so I could re-machine it. Well after putting in the 20w50, it was no better at all. And I noticed that the motor was bouncing all around. Turns out the motor mount bolts were loose. I tightened them up and it sounds like it always has. Doh! 🤦‍♂️ Well, at least it was an easy fix. The PO that replaced the motor didn't use any loctite or lock washers so I'll have to fix it again (properly) of course.

      • Paul.... those two look like good dogs. Their expressions and body language just scream "good dog".

Good work. Dogs need good homes.

It's cool that they are friends. That means they always have another pack member even if the human is up on a ladder or otherwise elsewhere.

I have cats, but we like dogs too, and most dogs like us. Both sets of parents have had both dogs and cats.

              (snip)

Looks to me like the hook should be mounted a little higher up on the pole, in order to better engage a smaller log like that.

Did you make the hook? ...looks well made.

              • I would've guessed that german shepard to be quite a bit younger than eight. His canines look very sharp and pointed.

Yeah I made it from 10mm plate steel. I moved it up and down and found it worked better further down actually, then the point on the hook works against the point on the bottom of the handle and gets a much better grip.

GSD - German Shepherd Dog. Called Alsatians in the UK because of the association with Germans during one of the world wars.

                          • They are just about perfect dogs Griffey has a lot of energy and is very protective, but also seems happy to just lie on the floor or the grass near me. He is a bit aggressive about taking a treat from my hand (along with my fingers), but he hasn't caused any pain or damage. Nyke is definitely showing her age, especially on the steps, but seems to be doing better as she gets used to them. Griffey flies down practically in a single bound! I have invited him onto my bed, and he snuggled next to me for a while before getting down. It's a bit challenging taking them both on a walk, but they have reasonable leash manners and they listen when I tell them to wait or ease up. I'll be taking them to the vet's Monday, but due to Covid19 precautions the staff will have to take them in, separately. I called another vet but they have the same restrictions.

Some pictures from their previous owner:.

                            • Today I worked. For the first time in 2 months.....

One day I'd like to rescue a dog. The past couple weeks doing a lot of outside work around the property made me realize how much a dog would enjoy that too, (and I would enjoy a dog). Unfortunately with our work schedules it's not really an option yet, but someday.... Until then it'll be cats I guess....

                              • Oddly enough there was an item on the BBC local radio just now saying that during lockdown there has been a lot of requests to the RSPCA for people wanting to adopt pets but also around 2k abandonments over the country leaving them with and overall increase to over 5k dogs in care.
Lots of people drive to just outside my place to walk dogs in the countryside but a couple of times they have let the dog out of the car and when it runs off drive off quick to leave it. My neighbour adopted a couple like that.
