This is a copy of a RCA 44 BX microphone. Everything is from raw stock, except for some screws. Was used for radio back in the 1940's.
The logo ,RCA emblem was a challenge, useing Mastercam X 9 for the art work. Had to scale everything from pictures.

Got out my headband magnifiers with a "2X" lens.....to be able to see the mm graduations on a rule well enough to be able to mark out accurately. I know they said that it's all downhill from forty....but DAMN!

I turned 24. Dad gave me two gifts today. He came by while I was at work and spent the day cleaning an organizing. He is very good at it, I am not. Mowed the grass since my mower was broke down and just generally helped out. I thought it was quite touching, and exactly what I needed. That's something money can't buy.

The other is a 0.99997" Baker Master Setting Ring in beautiful condition. I'm sure that will come in handy.

Made a slight rid for my own back. I've been looking at wood chisels for a while now. I have two left from my dad that were really good and all that are left to me after various people and family have borrowed them over the intervening 43 years. Found that Irwin Marples still make them and then found a limited edition set of 8 in a box (rather than 6 in a roll). Only downside is now I have 8 of them to sharpen instead of the set of 4 I was originally looking at! I'm sure the woodworkers will point out that the side walls are thicker that ideal for dovetailing but my dad managed it and the clear red and yellow handles are really iconic looking....well at least they are if that's what your dad's chisels looked like.

On Friday I drove to the emissions station in Owings Mills, and went to use their self-service kiosk which costs just $10 instead of $14 for the full-service drive through. There was a large blank screen and only limited instructions. I tried several times to insert my credit card but still nothing seemed to work.

But then I noticed a little portion of text in a corner of the display, and when I shaded it with a shopping bag the big black blob started to dissipate, and finally I could proceed. The display was in direct full sunlight and was totally washed out. Seems like someone would have thought to provide a shading hood or curtain to take care of that problem.

But everything proceeded nicely and my little Honda Fit ULEV passed the test.

Finished up a rush job for a customer. Made these little 304 Stainless pivot blocks. Did not have a 9/16 ball endmill, so ended up drilling and reaming a 9/16 hole on center. Then I flipped them and milled the slot through.

I adapted a caliper type slide DRO to my tail stock…

made 4 hex head shoulder bolts for a friend who's fixing up some guys '56 or '57 F100. The nuts welded into the hood had been changed so the replacement bolts didn't fit, plus 2 of the hinge inserts had wallowed out. So 2 bolts were made for the side with inserts (0.427" shoulder) and 2 for the side without (0.500" shoulder).

also made a temporary arbor to mount them too after parting off, so that I could face them to height without damaging the threads.


finished bolts. Threads are a bit rough as the die chipped in use, but they'll do fine. The shiny one is the replacement that doesn't fit.

So I take it that in the USA you have to get an emissions test separate from any other controls? Annual?
In the UK after 3yrs old a car has one combined annual "MOT" test checking brakes, body rust, lights, seat belts, and emissions. A nice little earner for the garages.

Well, there isn't really such a thing as "in the USA" - most of the requirements are by the individual states (and we have 50 of them).

In California there isn't such a thing as an MOT - there are no safety checks required, just emissions tests. And none of those are required for the first six years for a new car. After that it's every two years.

We just had both of ours go through the emissions test. Our '97 Camry required an actual tailpipe test. The '11 Tacoma just required the tech to check out the stored codes in the onboard computer.

Each of those tests cost us $47. Can't complain.

Lmao. You can drive a 100 year old plank of wood if it has a tag and registration.
