No, Sieg SC4. Pretty sure there's some electric braking but I think it works with the main power switch so it could just be a case of retraining to use that. One of the 'needs' for it is that if you last had her spinning at 2000rpm, you can't select a lower speed without pressing start and waiting for it to get to 2000rpm and then dialing it back down. There are times that's not desirable so you have to either power off or e-stop. I was taught (went on a 2-day basic course) to use the e-stop but that's clearly going to get expensive if I continue!

I still have five or six issues on the shelf. I lived in the Haight in the '60s and read them all - Freak Brothers, R. Crumb, Zap Comix and more. Read them and tossed them. If I'd saved them all (and the posters) I'd be a rich man today. But who knew?

Cenedd:- This might do the job for larger diameter vacuum cleaner hose.

They do quite a lot of dust extraction type stuff.

No connection other than taking delivery of a 5µm dust filter for my extractor that I'm in the process of re-commissioning, after replacing the blown up 1ph motor with a 3ph one I already had.

Thanks for that Mark. Answers a few questions: why smooth bore hose doesn't come standard with vacuum cleaners and what the cost would be - £80 plus a divorce if the wife found out the cost!

Cut down the feet of my welding table. It was far too high, even for me at 188 cm (6'2"). It was over one meter. OK for standing and stick welding stuff on, but impossible to get a comfortable position for sitting down and tig welding. Now that I bought an old DDR made bench grinder I need to make new adjustable tool rests for it, a project that will involve tigging, I want to be able to sit comfortably.

Qualifying the parallels and spacer blocks I noodled about making this week. Yes its cheaper to buy sets, but I like having a range of awkward sizes, and I like knowing they are square with parallel surfaces, a luxury not afforded to the cheap parallels I bought previously. I think "precision ground" must have been the chinese brand name...
I'm happy theyre within 0.001" end to end, and when they get beat up I'll just grind them back again. Yes that is a chip in my optical flat, I stupidly allowed my son to take it to school on one of his show and tell guess the mystery item, and someone in the class dropped it...

I disassembled tables and shelves in the back room that will be a shop and piled it on one side. next step, screw 1/4" underlayment plywood to the 90 year old pine floor, and have a few long cracks to deal with, rather than the current Snuffy Smiths roof I walk on. Thompsons water seal, and do the other side.

Spent the morning making brackets and mounting, or I should say; remounting, the mister and air line(s) on the mill. The air coupler is there to plug the hole until I can get a coiled air line for the air gun. I added an air shutoff at the front of the machine because I was tired of stepping around the DRO and to the side of the column. It was that or fiddling with the mister valve that ends up behind my light. The air lines don't seem to be in the way of anything and the valve being handy cuts down on wasted coolant.

Also added a speed handle for the quill down feed. I really like this!

I broke a lot of parting tools when I first got my Chinese lathe, it is just not rugged/solid enough. I solved the problem by turning the tool upside down and parting in reverse, if it tries to grab it lifts up ans away rather than trying to get under the piece.

And last night I also did this to my milwaukee portaband. The "table" from factory is an atrocious, wobbly piece of **** that you can't handle small parts at all on. In the long term I want an even bigger table with legs and built in breaker like Brian Oltrogges design. I have it designed in Fusion. This will tidy me over a while and it can be used normally too, though I don't think I have ever used it as it's meant to more than a dozen times.

what light source are you using for the flat?

its not on in this shot, but a Phillips 55w sox lps lamp. I bought the "monochromic led spot light" off ebay as per my thread on that subject but it turned out to not work at all as predicted but its handy as a machine light anyway.
If you search pootube, there is some talk of using cheap spot lasers adapted with links on which one to use, but I wasn't that impressed with the patternation showed in the videos so thought id go the sodium route. I'd like to find a real helium light source one day when budget allows.

If it's anything like mine (an SC4) check for backlash in the cross-slide. Only spotted mine when I tried to drill something held on the cross-slide with a drill bit held in the chuck (for making sure the hole was on-centre) and found it impossible because the cross-slide slid back and forth as the drill went round. It's adjustable but only from underneath round the back.....obviously. I bought an MGEH carbide parting tool at the same time - it wasn't a lot more than just replacing the cobalt steel blade I had - and between the two it's made parting something I can do confidently instead of just waiting for the blade to ping across the shop.
