  • Bridgeport Head Lettering ?

I was askedthe question about the head letters on Brodgeports - the question being "How did they come up with calling it a "J" head, or "M" Head?

I had always thought it was generation of head, #1 Bridgeport being the "A" head. Thought I heard the old curator of the Am. Precision Museum saying this, but not sure as i have seen some inconsistancies in this.

Info needed by Thursday so I can say I was right, or gladly admit an error and say that "you heard it here".

    spope14,
Always enjoy reading your postings. You might have been to this site many times in the past but take a look at:
    http://www.lathes.co.uk/bridgeport/
The only head variant not mentioned in this site is the "H" Head which was speacially made for Hardinge Horizontal Mills. This posting gives a run down of the "C" and "H" Heads:

If necessary cut and paste the above URL to where it ends with 287.
    Good luck,
    Jim Larsen
