  • old lathe motor rpm

My Craftsman 12" didn't come with the original motor (came with a 3hp Baldor - with tragically worn bearings)

I got a 1/2HP 3ph motor on it now. This motor runs at 1725 or 1750. The lathe seems to have low RPMs, not that this is entirely bad.

Anyone know the RPMs of the original motor?

1725 rpm you should have 28 rpm's in backgear

Cool, thanks. I assume that's with the belts in the 'slowest' settings.

1/2 HP is on the puny side for your 12" Craftman lathe. Use it but keep your eyes open for a larger replacement.

            The Craftsman came with a 1/2HP single-phase originally, I believe. I might have a 1hp 3ph sitting around.

If there is a pulley speed chart on the lathe you can figure the motor speed.
