  • 5 c collet threads

I have been looking up 5C collet specs. (external threads) on the web and it is a bit of a mystery. The closest I have found is 1.238" x 20 thrds. This would be a none standard thread??????? Anyone have any knowledge in this area.

Non standard threads--Standard form special PD

No experience on this case. There are many conditions that call for a certain pitch diameter that is not standard. There used to be a military handbook that gave basic thread profile dimensions and we used that to dimension the threads for these sort of special case threads. From the HSM viewpoint I would think that you would just apply standard thread depth from the major diameter. Not sure but just a thought.

Check out this page at Shopswarf.com:

According to the chart, it's supposed to be 1.245-20 for the external threads. You could always measure a 5C collet for the pitch diameter.

        Nice chart.

That looks like the best bet, but I have seen three different sets of specs for this thread. Thanks.

          Here's a vote for 1.238 20

          ID is 1.041 24.

The hardinge 5C collet site is presently down, but I'd bet on what they say it should be!
