  • Don't ignore your chuck

I keep my 1948 13 in South Bend fairly clean, and lubed. Eventhough it is not in the best of shape, but it's mine now and I try to keep it nice. I will not be making parts for NASA, but it suits my needs just fine. My fairly new Bison chuck has a oil hole in the front I would squirt oil in, when I lubed my lathe. The chuck was getting real hard to open, and close in spots. What I found was where the jaws slide in the chuck body, was such a close fit, the jaws were sticking for lack of lube Now I will pay more attention to my chuck, by the way the Bison is a good chuck in my opinion.
