  • Splined Shaft Advice needed

Drawings call for a Morse Taper 1.5" splined shaft... I am still scratching my head on that...

So in other words, I need to update the project a bit with a proper splined shaft.

This shaft will be subject to a lot of torque. A 1.5" shaft being driven by a 20" pulley. I am just wondering if it would even be necessary to have it be tapered.
Also, I am thinking of straight splines, not involutes.

I would love to hear what your opinions on the matter are.

To clarify things a bit, the older 2d cad 1.0 drawings

A lot or tork on a 1.5" shaft?
Dont mess with tapered splines just key the 1.5 shaft. that way when it snaps off you wont have to make tapered splines every time.

Way too much work to put into a failure point.

Well, being that it is a drive shaft for an airplane, we all are hoping it does not snap, haha.
