    Hi Al:

As it happens, I just took a 299 apart-it is externally similar to the Starrett 196, but internally, the Lufkin is much more cheaply made, and the parts won't interchange.

If you're interested in trading your broken 299 for a working Starrett 196. let me know.

I just contacted Long Island Indicator, I await their response. I have not contacted Lufkin, since they have not offered dial indicators in a long, long time, but you are right, it is worth a try. Also, I thought of contacting Starrett, since their 196 is similar? They have been very helpful to me in the past. Maybe they would/ could replace the broken stem?
    Thanks, Al.

Lufkin 299 Back Plunge Dial Indicator

Does anyone have an exploded diagram of a Luflin 299 Back Plunge Dial Indicator? I have one with a broken off stem, (I got it that way). I would like to fix it, or have it fixed. I know that The Starrett 196 is similar, but how similar? Also a parts list would probably be useful as well. Thanks, Al. HomeshopAl.
