Buy it and build an addition, or drop by and i'll give a lesson on cramming in machines . It is sooo nice having a horizontal. I can maybe see how 10,000 lb vertical machining centres displaced horizontals, but I don't get their obsolescence in the face of a light duty 1.5hp vertical mill.....they both have their place but the horizontal is so much more solid and powerful for general milling. Light cuts, rotary table work, locating holes are all great on the vertical but for serious milling the horizontal quickly becomes the go to machine
          .

Yeah but I don't want the mill, I'm interested in the screw machine.

              A gent's gent?

              Thanks QSIMDO

I don't think I'm a gentleman - few (if any) that I know - or that know me - would accuse me of it!!

              And I sure don't (or didn't?) intend to be a "Gentleman's Gentleman".

                Isn't just being one enough?

                Any help here?

Apparently OG is a model of Brown And Sharp. I discovered this by reading a book I have on the subject.

OF COURSE the Craigslist poster could have included those 13 additional characters at NO COST... but I guess anyone who is too lazy to push 13 additional keystrokes is clearly too lazy to operate such a machine or a mill... hence why they are sitting in his garage unused.

I'll bet the guy's older than dirt.
You'd be amazed the amount of people who had screw machines set up in their garages, either supporting the war effort or sub-ing to other shops.
That and wine barrels bubbling away, clouds of fruit flies every where.

Joking aside I know a couple of businesses in this area that started out like that. One is a division of Parker now... Originally started out compression molding a small plastic part for a bomb sight. Single crude machine in his barn. Last I knew they were up to sixty state of the art injection and compression machines, computerized material management system... the works.

The other one is in fact a screw machine shop... six really old screw machines crammed into a building on Main Street that was a fish-store. Company is owned by his grandson now. Last count they had the screw machines, a couple bar-fed CNC machines, a big old engine lathe and two bridgeports. They made me some brass "screws" for a project.

They were in the news recently someone on the Village Board was looking to make an election year issue about a "factory" in the middle of the "economic redevelopment zone." More or less she wanted them to close down and go away so they could put a coffee shop and loft apartments in that space. Yeah... get rid of five $25 an hour jobs so we can hire a bunch of minimum wage slaves who can't afford the $1100 a month apartments upstairs.

The MH is the universal, but it's a 5,000 lb machine. 50 Taper.

                        Maybe Fastrack wants it?

C note? Never sang higher than an "G" above middle "C" since I was in 8th grade. Some things won't happen even with electric underwear.
