  • 'C ' clamps

    was looking for some ideas on how to fix the swervel end of a c clamp.....i found several large ones at the scrap yard without the swervel end...

        I have welded worn out impact swivel sockets. The ball and pin style.

            Chevy,

            Not hard. You machine the pad the way you want it and on the back side machine a hollow cylinder with the depth of the hole in the middle just a little more than half the diameter of the ball. Thin the top edge of the cylinder on the outside to make it easier to swedge. Stick it on the ball, then use a punch to curl the cylinder edge inward so it doesn't fall off. If you want to be even more professional you can use a ball endmill or D-drill the same size as the ball to form the bottom of the hole in the new pad.

            Before you put too much effort into them you might also look them over to see if they've been sprung so the screw will no longer meet the anvil on the other side. Maybe the original owners salvaged the pads and threw the rest away.

                    You can get replacment pads from a McMaster Carr or a "good" local Hardware store. They a less then $2.00 for one inch size.

                            Maybe that's the part on a sprung clamp where the clamp pad is going off to the Jones's.
