  • Kind of a Test Message

The war department finally broke down and got Internet (broadband) piped into the house. Never had dialup... and won't. The kicker is that this is a filtered ISP. Yes, you know that going into it, but if you live where I live, this is IT for service (local christian cable company). I resisted for a long time; and no I'm not a pervert. I just believe I SHOULD have access to anything I want to veiw, other than illegal junk.

OK, so you are bored with the story. But I figured that since I have some type of access, I should have access in my garage as well (it is across the street from my house). So this is a test message from my garage to see if the wireless router and adapter are functioning well enough. I have a very low signal strength and not sure why. I will be moving routers around as time permits to get a better signal.

I also bought the war wagon a new SLR digital camera (Cannon EOS XL), so I will be bringing the little camera over here as well. I hope you guys can teach me some things from actually looking at my mistakes and projects.

    OK, POOF!!!! did it work?

Roger Wilco! I can "read" you loud and clear. Good luck with the routers and likely just moving them will make a big difference. Keep in mind the new 802.11N systems offer a long range version for just a few bucks more then the regular ones. Mine is a LinkSys from Cisco and it works all over my 1 acre property with router in the middle.

Thank you to our families of soldiers, many of whom have given so much more then the rest of us for the Freedom we enjoy.

It is true, there is nothing free about freedom, don't be so quick to give it away.

Yep, Virginia. Where they used to hand out 20 years sentences for possession of a single joint and they still give half a year in prison for possession of Tylenol with Codeine which is over the counter here.

Wow that's retribution gone mad Evan.In some parts of the world there seems to be more interest in severe punishment than sensible law.How can imposing such a sentence be safeguarding the great and good? Alistair

Well obviously niether one of you can read. NEVER EVER confuse WEST VIRGINIA with those DA's of Virginia. They do some weird shiite down there, none of which we are subjected to. Anyway,

Both DSL and fiber run along the highway just below our house. The housing development on one side of us has access, and the develpment on the other side does as well. We are on a hill between the two, with several thousand acres of woods between and only two or three houses that would ever use it, so they will not at present split it off and bring it up to us. We have a petition into the PSC, and indeed we should get somewhere early next year (maybe), but the war wagon wouldn't wait.

Evan, you are correct in one respect though. The US has some goofy outlooks on drugs and sex. Nuff said.

They burned witches at the stake in England too. It's not always about the greater good. It's fear plain and simple.

You can in part thank one of my ancestors for that. I am directly descended from Roger Williams, the founder of the Providence Colony at Rhode Island.

They sent those folks Down Under.

One wonders how history would be different if the folks sent to what is now Australia landed here, and the Puritans and other UCRW (ultra-conservative religious wackos) ended up Down Under.

An acre? You get decent signal at the edges still? I thought mine was N but now I want to go look. I have pretty weak signal in my shop.

We had Henry and Edward Williams down here. A lovely couple by all accounts

The best bet to improve range on wireless is to buy or build a directional antenna. Here is one I built and it will double the range on the frontside while decreasing any interference, both transmitted and received, on the back side.

There are all sorts of easy plans online, or if you buy they aren't very expensive.

Oh yeah, machining content: I made the connector.
