  • OT - Lens polishing

I've got an older pair of glasses, standard plastic lenses, with a UV coating that is flaking off. These are the glasses I wear when things are flying and don't want to risk damage to my good glasses. Is there a fairly simple way to remove the entire coating?

    Thanks.
    Steve.

I was pretty sure that is what the answer was going to be but thought I'd check anyway.

Maybe I'll build a CNC lens grinder to skim off a thin layer!

      Thanks.

straight (99%) isopropyl alcohol will take off (or at least loosen) some eyeglass coatings ... don't ask how I know ...

and yes I was able to remove the entire coating once it started

I am fairly sure that a belt sander will take it off without much effort. Or a disk sander. Or, well you get the idea.

A little extra pressure and it will remove both sides in the same operation.
