  • Best way to tighten a NMTB40 Toolholder

    Hi guys,

I have the NMTB40 toolholding system in the spindles of my mills. What is the best and safest way to securely tighten a tool into one of these holders? I've thought of this: http://www.edgetechnologyproducts.co...g-fixture.html

Do any of you have a home grown fixture or technique that works well?

    Thanks,
    Terry

    That or one of these:

Cant hardly build one for the price of one of those. Probably cheaper on ebay too.

Macona's post flips out on an error, but what I always used was a vise that I made. Just a piece of DOM with two dog ears welded to it. You put the taper in it then made your adjustments.

I've got a big chunk of aluminum that is cut to NT40 specs, I clamp it into a vise, drop the tool in and crank away. Much better than abusing the bearings in your machine.

I have a Bison 40-taper fixture that's nice and solid. It cost rather more than 800-watt's eBay special, however. $20? Sheesh that's cheap. Must be made by slaves or close relatives. How else could you do it?

Never buy from 800watt, hes got the worst imports on ebay. Makes horror freight look good.

Though I will say his feedback has gone up some since I last seen it, He used to be at like 98%
