Over here zones tell you when you can safely plant different things in the spring. We're in zone 7 so the zone 3 tap would have to go in much later than usual. I think for us it would mean count to four before you insert your tap. Dunno if I can wait that long.

Here I thought it meant Chinese standard for the west, so that nothing would work right or could be disassembled so the great unlearned would run out and buy another, thereby guaranteeing Far East retirements.

started a topic Zone 3 taps??

    Zone 3 taps??

I've just been sorting through a box of ex-Ministry taps that I bought, noticed that a number of them are marked
"**Whit Zone 3 HSS" (All are Goliath brand I think)

What is Zone 3? Any clues? a grade of HSS, or a specific thread size tolerance? They look to be perfectly ordinary Whitworth taps, though I haven't tried measuring any. There was a bunch of Whit and UNC wire insert taps among them, but these are not insert taps.

    Thanks
    Tim
