A look at several sites' 6 hour charts shows the same noise pattern all over Washington and Oregon. Fascinating stuff.

Felt the quake here in Norfolk VA very strongly, the LARGE building shook, rattled steel sway braces in the overhead, shook the ground. Had one smaller shock, followed quickly by a major shock.

"Here" is Navy Base Norfolk, BTW. Area building is on is fill in the bay.

Epicenter was about 20 miles north of me. Good 45 seconds of serious shaking, a few things fell off shelves, no apparent damage. And here we are preparing for a direct hurricane strike in a few days...

Ahhhhh.... Thers's a difference between being president and being the president. I suspect that whoever were president would have his hands full about now. The other guy, the one Paris Hilton referred to as the "old wrinkly white guy", is probably counting his blessings at the moment. How he would have done is all conjecture at this point and not worth discussion. Discussion about the current guy becomes political and this is not the place for that. I'm just happy that I don't have the job.

Read from a yooper (Upper Penninsula, Michigan for our off-shore friends) today that they got rattled a bit, too. That's about the farthest I've seen yet where it was felt.

Seems like an odd place for a large earthquake. The only geology that suggests them is the old meteor crater in Chesapeake Bay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chesape...impact_crater), and the fact that Virginia rafted up against West Virginia to form the Blue Ridge Mountains that run along the state line and up through Pennsylvania.

My parents live in Goochland (suburb of Richmond) -- about 20 miles from the epicenter. My Dad said the house shook for about 20 seconds, but nothing fell off the walls.
