    Notice the "headstock" is located in the center of the bed and it's only function is to drive the axle which passes through the large through hole in the center. There are two tailstocks, one at each end of the bed facing each other. The axle is located between the centers in the tailstocks. There are two carriages allowing both ends of the axle to be turned with one setting of the work and simultaneously if necessary.
