  • Slotting head

I found this slotting head on Ebay. My thought was to mount it on my horizontal mill and use it for making keyways in pulleys and gears.

    Good idea or bad idea?

Broaches are faster... BUT are more expensive, fixed in size etc..

Plus you can do things like internal ring gears with a slotter, plus splines... Add a CNC and you could probably do lots of other stuff as well..

I think a slotter is handier then a shaper, but plenty will disagree with me..
