3 so far and that's after I sold a small Grizzly last week. They also seem to get larger but bigger is better they say. Although I was having a blast tonight turning alum on my newly acquired Atlas 6x18 lathe. For some reason I just love it. It's just a shrunken 12x36.

Thanks! I was looking for a motor & bought a nice 2HP Brideport for $500 but I still want to get the Hightower going. I like it better for some reason.

    Motor

A replacement motor not available? Rewind the old one. It is not too difficult as the three hp size is large enough manually wind in the coils. Carefully take the old one apart and make notes of the coil placement.

If this is the typical bridgeport long shaft style motor you can try to get fairly cheap c face motor and extend the shaft via welding on a stub and turning down the shaft then cutting a keyway in it. Somewhere on here or PM there is a nice thread on just such a project.

Could you make an adapter plate and run a "C" face motor?

    Bridgeport type Motor needed!

I bought a 3HP Hightower Bridgeport clone in great shape except the motor is gone. I have the clutch/vari drive parts just not the motor. I can use 1 or 3 phase. Any help in locating one will be appreciated. I hate to spend a fortune but it's a nice machine but I can buy a real 2HP Bridgeport for $500 & I just can't bring myself to scrap anything thing that still has life in it, especially old stuff. Thanks!
