  • 9" SB apron star clutch Help!

Decided to repost this with a more descriptive title.

Does anyone have pics or a drawing of the SB apron star clutch assembly? I have a copy of the parts manual, but it still leaves some questions as to what exactly goes where and in what order. When I removed the sheet metal cover the two half moon pieces and the spring clip just fell out onto my bench.

In addition, does anyone have drawings for the toggle cam apron clutch for the 9" SB? This star clutch just has to go.

I have an exploded view of the apron. I can get it scanned and e-mail it to you. It would be late tomorrow morning eastern time before I could do it. Hope this helps. PM me if interested.

Yeah Dr., I know what you mean about the star clutch. Mine has one too and you really gotta give it a spin to disengage it. I wish mine had the cam lever too.

The 9" machine never came with the toggle clutch. If your clutch is clean and the surfaces are good, you shouldn't have to turn the knob more than a 1/4 turn.
Not sure since the star knob turns with feed motion that the toggle setup can even be adapted to the 9" machine, the heavy 10 and bigger South Bends have a totally diffent clutch design to use the toggle lever.

Granted, but with a little bit of engineering someone could come up with a design for a toggle clutch. My 14 1/2" SB has a star clutch, but a toggle was optional. I'd like to convert both machines.

Stan, just sent you an e-mail with the drawing. Sorry it took a bit longer than anticipated, had some interruptions this morning.
