A fine example of good clean machining comedy.

He's already done in his elbow. Now it looks like he's going for his face.

I'd say it was comedy too if it wasn't for his elbow all messed up.

It’s an old trick to turn an oval shaft.
I think he needs a good woman to set him straight.

Least he's protecting the important stuff with his left hand.

Printed this one out today for the students in my shop class.

Found the print out pic one hour later with the caption......

                  The safety poster child.....

You just have to know that this picture was set up. I only see two things. That the piece isn't supported by the tailstock and that the tool holder is extended too far. These guys went through a lot to even get to be an apprentice I would imagine, so I think the picture was set up. Safety wasn't as much a concern in those days, but now we have stupid labels on everything to protect the manufacturers from the idiots. Some people even want signs posted on cliffs to tell people it would be dangerous if they fell off.

What other items do you notice other than this guy really messed up his arm and that is probably why they picked him for this picture.

As I said, comedy. Note the post and beam construction. In the background is an anvil on a stump. Almost like it was in a blacksmith shop. Anyone have an idea what lathe that is?

There's method in this madness I tell you.
You may think he looks kind of dopey, but the "after" picture is him getting a sponge bath by a young pretty candy striper.

                            The caption could read:
"How to hook up with a pretty nurse"

Look real close. One of the chuck jaws is turned around!
