  • OT slow computer

although not compleately off topic as this is the medium that I use to learn/ shop for machining info/tools i have noticed that my computer is getting slower and slower, and I am relatively sure that its not just me. I am still a total beginner more or less. I had dial up and then switched to msn dsl and stuff loaded realllly fast, now it seems like I am on dial up again. (getting up and making some coffee while I wait for pages to load. I searched the archives, didnt find anything that seemed to fit, then I looked with google and it seemed like it was either some guy showing how he made his pc into a hot rod or some company trying to sell me a product to make things " better" where do I look first for problems? here are the numbers for this box its a pent. 3 with 511 mb ram with an 18gb drive with 6.7 used Ideas?

    Thanks again,

    Samuel

In 'control panel' click on 'internet options'

Clear files, and then go down and clear history.

Do Not! Delete cookies. clearing these should speed you up.

Some elaboration, perhaps, rustybolt, on 'do not delete cookies'?
I seldom do anything within the scope of logical reason and calculated cost/benefit, etc- I'm following my passion-

Sounds like another Charter Cable customer.

Mine was faster on DSL with the phone company.
