    I've seen this done with horizontal mill. They fixed a lathe toolbit in the arbor and set it to the right approach for a flat workpiece. Then with the spindle stopped but table traverse on you can watch the process go on.

        It would be interesting to know the magnification. I didn't see anything to get a scale.
