  • Question for gunsmiths

I have a couple of handguns with aluminum alloy frames and wrap-around rubber grips. They tend to develop an oxide corrosion on the aluminum under the grips. I clean them frequently enough to keep this in check but I want to know if there is a treatment available for home shop use which would prevent this from occurring.

Brownells' [www.brownells.com] sells an enamel paint and primer called ALUMA-HYDE. It works pretty well. You could also laquer the offending part. Whether you paint or anadize you will have to keep the oxygen from reaching the aluminum to keep that from happening. Good Luck!!
