  • Craftsman 101 Lathe Question

    Hello
    New guy here.

Just bought a Craftsman 101.28940 Lathe.
In the process of diss-assembly clean up & repaint. So far found & repaired several "cobbed" things & I like to know how things work prior to using the machine

It has a quick change unit & I'd like to remove the head & QC from the bed for more cleaning, check out & paint
Any reason I should not remove these from the bed
anything I should look for while its apart
    And Any suggestions appreciated
    Thanks for your response

Take pictures as you take the lathe apart so there's no guessing how things go back together. No problem stripping it down to it's smallest parts, you can check the condition of each piece as you clean it. If you mount an indicator on the tailstock base and indicate the ways you will get some idea of the wear, or not. Good luck on the rebuild. Peter
The difficult done right away. the impossible takes a little time.

Get a copy of the parts manual or snatch a copy of the pages from the link below. It will help during re-assembly.
