  • seeking good source for high quality short flute # drills

A good friend has an interesting project that requires drilling thousands of blind holes .100" deep in stainless and alloy steel's.
does anyone have a good source for cobalt or carbide short flute drills? the primary size is #40 (.098)

I have spent significant time checking the web and really cannot find anything.

    Thanks,
    Robert

You want to buy "Screw Machine Drills"

They are stubby and can be purchased in cobalt or cabide
    Example

Go with MA Ford or PTD

McMaster Carr is my first choice for something like that! They always carry name brands, mostly Made in USA. Thier shipping is fast and reasonable, and Thier retun policy is excellent. Thy also have a great web site. Bob.

If you are thinking carbide, look up circuit board drills. Usually 1/8" shank and only 3/8" flute length.

MSC Enco or McMaster. If you need a million of them, you can probably get them cheaper.
I'd order a few split point cobalts and some circuit board drills, a few different manufacturers, see what works best and go from there.
