  • Picked up some new to me tools

Bought some things from a retired toolmaker the other day. I just happened to be surfing kijiji at the right moment and was able to respond to the ad first.
I spent quite a bit of time talking with this oldtimer. Super nice old german fellow, Wolfgang. We had alot in common and it was nice to talk to someone in person about machining stuff. (doesn't happen too often)

Thing that caught my eye in the ad pics was the level. I have really wanted a good level for probably 5 years but just couldn't justify the cost vs. how much I would use it.

He told me all about it on the phone, he brought it from Germany, he prefered it to starrett adjustable levels. I ended up grabbing a bunch of stuff including a small precision level with scraped v bottom, also from Germany.

I bought the sine bar (no gauge pins yet) and tap holder he made when he was an apprentice. He said he was glad it was going to someone who could appreciate it. I was pretty happy!
He was supprised I knew what transfer screws were lol Grabbed the starrett taper gauge and the straight edge is on my desk in my office (in my basement)

The spherical tap holder is old and really slick. The two halfs ride on 2 pins and it is spring loaded. I just like playing with it

I didn't take a pic but I also got a box full of quality eye bolts and shackles. I recently had to buy 4 eye bolts when i moved my mill, spent almost $100 for quality ones. Paid $220 for the lot

Going back tomorrow if I can duck out of my birthday for a coupe hours.
He has a toolbox my buddy wants and a buch of primo v blocks that I want to make room for lol

    Wish me luck

I went back again to grab a tool box for my buddy and bought a spanner wrench that fits my qc30 spindle nut on my bp and a southbend lathe spanner wrench for $10

Thinking it must be for tightening a chuck, will go grab a pic as I figured someone here might want it
