  • Tool holder needed

I need two tool holders. They are for cutting acme threads. The inserts I have, the holders I dont. How does one figure out what tool holder will hold a specific insert? Now I would assume that the inserts are standard, thus the tool holders can be manufactured by anyone. I would like a generic holder because it wont be used very much.

    The inserts are:
    Vardex 3IR8ACME VK2 Z #41013162

    POSA-CUT Corporation PCST-12907-1

Any help would be much appreciated..
    Thanks.

Hummmm.. The first insert, vardex, is a triangle insert. BUT the tooth profile is cut along the entire side. The holder you recommended has the insert rotated so the ENTIRE edge is not parallel with the bore, (tap drill size if you will). If I were to use the one that you recommended the acme thread form would look like a buttress thread.

The second insert. posa-cut, is shaped like a parting tool bit. It is not a triangle.

Also in your links, the page that opens up lists 3 pages of holders. I'm still confussed to say the least.

Both insert numbers, sombody wrote on them , that they were for internal threading.

Look at the on edge type threaders these people make.

Yes, the vardex is for internal threading only and 8TPI only.

The other one I dont know anything about. Usually the on-edge insert can be used internally and externally. Unless they are ground unsymmetrical.
