    New lathe arrived!

The truck arrived with my new lathe today and the driver kindly put it on the front step for me.

A nice little cardboard carton containing a Sherline lathe I had bought on-line. When I opened the box I found it is an early model Australian made with brass bed and cross slide etc.

It seems to be in very good order although a little dirty. No accessories and the chuck on the tail stock appears way oversize. I cannot visually detect any wear.

Just so you can see this is an original made by Ronald Sher, hence very rare and much sought after.............

Very nice! I've been looking at these. I can see it now, making chips on a cold winter day by the fireplace in the den.

It does seem there were not many of these made as I have been unable to find any reference on-line to a "Sherline 3" Precision Lathe".

I'll trade you a 8000# 24"x72" Boye & Emmes straight up if you cover the shipping. Now pound for pound you're really getting a wonderful deal. Just let me when to expect the truck.

Scrap? SCRAP? You hurt me to the quick. If your not going to love the Boye than the deals off! SCRAP?

Deals off? Thats a shame, I was going to call you local scrap man to come and get it from your place, send me the $$$ and I would send you the Sherline. But if the deal is off.... oh well.... this little blue lathe is really priceless anyway so I guess I am coming out in front by keeping it!

BTW, any lathe weighting 4 tons and worth the shipping this far would be way outside my retirement budget..

Now I thought you had more creativity then that flylo. Want a great Christmas card? Try one of The Artful Bodger himself chucked in the Boye... now that would be a picture for the holidays. Probably worth paying his airfare over just for the photo.

On the other hand, at the prices you score stuff at his offer of scrap price might well have left you (and him) with considerable profit, you'd have his Sherline, he'd have some money --and you'd have more room to put more stuff. A possible win-win... except the Boye might not see it as that much of a win... Of course we'd also have to consider that somewhere there would be a very happy scrap dealer... not to mention the possible person that "finds" an entire Boye at a scrap yard and acquires it.

There were some real possibilities there for awhile. Still, an Artful Bodger chucked in the Boye does have a certain holiday ring to it.
