  • machine dovetail manufacturing ?

this is just a question out of curiousity, and i am not refuting the advice to cut a relief groove when spotting/scraping a dovetail....

but how did the manufacturers do it without the relief groove?? all the old machines i`ve seen do not have relief grooves and the dovetails terminate into a sharp corner- yet they are scraped surfaces...

    just curious!

I suppose the "points" of the mating part can be blunted so they don't fit deep into the corner. Either way works, and the blunt points are a bit more "functional" in that cast iron makes a poor sharp edge... it chips.
