  • Oil ring groove on a lathe

    Gentlemen,

Would you mind sharing how you cut an oil ring groove on a lathe? For normal o ring on a shaft I used the parting tool, not a big deal. Than I needed o-ring on the face and I got it done somehow with a HHS bit I kept sharpening to be able to get there - it was next to male thread - but I am sure there are tips and tricks I am missing.

    Thanks for your help.

O-ring groove on the face of a turned part? You need a trepanning tool.

Yes, on the face and sunked in a bit.

Nothing special - If you are grinding your own just make sure your tool has sufficient "outside" relief for the radius of the groove.
