  • Nice old school drill press

Not a plug but more of nudge

Here's an old Buffalo #22 drill press with a step pulley and back gear drive with power feed; one of Buffalo's finest depression era designs: a simple and elegant machine capable of long service drilling anything in its capacity. I've seen a few over the years but they were in pretty rough shape, rusty and neglected with their table drilled to death. This one, however, appears to be in fine shape, a prize for some old school American Iron enthusiast.

Probably the original finish and the table is almost pristene. A real find for any one with need, deepish pockets, and a collector's turn of mind.

Sad to say, there is a missing part; who can identify it?

To me a machine like this is a visual treat.

    Downfeed dog tripper clamp?

    Seller's name is Tim.
I bought a few things from him.
Not a bad guy, buy kind of a show boater.
His prices were always a bit coo coo.

There seems to be a nut missing.

The one who would pay $1700 for an old drill ;-)

I don't know about the missing part, but seriously doubt that it is the original paint job, at least on the upperworks. Take a look at the closeups of the Buffalo Forge logo and motor nameplate and you can see the dirt under the paint and sags. The motor is a much more recent replacement.

As far as price goes, you would be hard pressed to find a comparable 22" self feeder on today's market for less that double that. Like anything else, the asking price and final seling price can be very different. I never saw anyone price an item low with the hope someone would offer more.

Agree with JC, if you are after a quality built press, AND, (as is often ranted about here, Lol, ) and only buy american made machines, then a deal could probably be made on what appears to be a great drill press, that needs little.

I came across the exact same drill last year locally (Craigslist) and paid $200 - Excellent machine, I love mine.

                Hoping this pic works.

This is my No. 22 drill - table is a little beat, but still good and solid - all for a couple hundred bucks!

so you have to get down on your knees to drill?

Wishful thinking on that price. I have 3 larger, better machines with tapping & auto feed & didn't pay that for all 3. Shameless plug anyway
