      You make a template that the stylus follows. This in turn causes the hydraulic system to move the carriage & cross slide and was a common way to make production parts of various geometries before CNC's. I've seen tracers mounted on turret lathes, mills, and even a vertical turret lathe.

          It's not a Hardinge "speed" lathe, it's a chucker. By itself that's worth the asking price.

          The tracer unit is fairly rare since it's two axis. If it works it's worth the asking price by itself.
