  • Delta Drill Press

I have this Delta Shopmaster benchtop drill press for some years now and have been very happy with it. The red arrow on the attached picture point to a set screw with a lock nut and I always wonder what this set screw is for but never had a chance to investigate. The manual says nothing about it.

Does anyone know what it's for?

I would guess that setscrew has a dog point and runs in a slot in the quill to keep the quill from turning.

Pretty sure thats the bolt for the spring return for the quill.

Also think it's connected to the return spring, looks to be in the right spot. Bob.

If you use the IMG link on Photobucket the image will appear in your post.

This link is the last one in the list on Photobucket. This is a lot more convenient for the viewer.

Delta drill press parts lists are available on line and they probably have assembly drawings which would help you find the function of that set screw.

Looks to me like the dog point to keep the quill from spinning in its bore. The return spring is likely on the other side-

Sorry for the link Paul, I was not aware that the IMG will put the photo in my post

I do have a pretty good assembly drawing in the manual but does not show what this set screw is for however from the other post I gather that it is to keep the quill from turning.

The spring return is on the other side

Thank you all for the help
