bushing a surface grinder wheel

Just received shipment of a Capco SG -- pictures to come in separate post -- but haven't
wired it yet.

Takes 1" bore wheels that don't appear as popular as the 1.25" bore.

Before I hurt myself, any reason I couldn't use 1.25" wheels with a bushing?

I'd assume the bushing shouldn't be press fit (expansion from heat, etc) -- any recommendations
on clearance?

Takes up to 8" wheels, will probably put 7's on.

Seems like there was an article in the magazines that used Babbitt or lead poured into the wheel then bored out and balanced.

0.1 mm clearance ought to do it, that is what I got on a big Johansson grinder and a small Jones & Shipman. You can make the bushing out of steel, but do not use aluminum or brass as they expand more than steel.

I like to make wheel busings out of nylon plastic or
some such similar material. You can make the fit
snug and not worry about expansion issues.

Yes that works too, but on bigger wheels that mean s a lot of balancing and dressing to get it running true as bigger wheels have "T" or "top" painted on the wheel to idicate in what position it should rest on the spindle or bushing to be as concentric as it was when it was turned to dimensions in the factory. For 7" wheels or so I wouldn't expect much issues, but those 400 mm / 16" wheels really like being balanced at least someway before anything.
