    Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, Mechanix Illustrated used to speculate on the possibilities of things like this. I wonder if anyone ever made one work.

      Not a new idea! Same basic principal used in the torpedo I worked on while on vacation for rich Uncle (Sam). Little engine put out 85 HP from about a 7" diameter unit. Propelled a 500+ lbs. torpedo at ?? (still secret, far as I know) knots, fast enough to catch a fast submarine. Won't say anymore as I may have already disclosed too much. Even if the ordinance is now obsolete.

        Kind of lost me at "burn powder-coal." Right. Looking over this basic design this is far too complex for a car engine. It'd be too difficult to manufacture profitably and it would be a nightmare to maintain.
