magnets instead of spider

i have 10 neodyme magnets, 3 x 8 mm. i was easyly able to pic three, that are within 0.002 mm in thicknes. so i stick them on the outside jaws as spacers. actually i can use all of them and stack them up, as they all are within 0.01 mm.

if you measure them, the trick is to open the micrometer just enough to slide them in, to keep out the swarf. on the chuck, just put a tape on them, to remove the swarf.

so i dont have to make spiders after all.

I have done that to hold parallels to the chuck.

Cast iron doesn't tend to magnetize at all well. High Speed Steel tool bits on the other hand magnetize if you even look at them cross eyed..
