  • Lubricants for Various Threading Materials

    My father was a great one for gathering items which he thought might be of future interest. He found a table in a magazine article in 1981 and since his passing I have used it and I thought might be of interest to others. It is dated but still has useful information. The article is well used (dirty and fingerprint covered) so I'll put the information below in this posting.

    Recommended Lubricants for Various Threading Materials

    Material - Lubricant

    Acrylic Plastic - Soapy Water
    Aluminum - Kerosene or Kerosene mixed with lard oil
    Bakelite - Dry
    Brass - Dry
    Bronze - Kerosene
    Cast Iron - Dry
    Copper - Lard oil
    Hard Rubber - Dry
    Magnesium - Kerosene
    Stainless Steel - Kerosene mixed with lard oil
    Steel - Lard oil, cutting oil or vegetable shorting
    Wrought Iron - Lard oil
    Zinc - Kerosene
    Bill

    Being ROAD KILL on the Information Super Highway and Electronically Challenged really SUCKS!!

    Every problem can be solved through the proper application of explosives, duct tape, teflon, WD-40, or any combo of the aforementioned items.
