Air spindles for endmill grinding fixtures

I'm curious about air spindles used in
endmill grinding fixtures. How do they work?
Could someone build their own endmill grind-
ing fixture? Has HSM or MW had articles on
this subject.

Some time ago, there was a series in one of the mags which, I think, was called "A much improved quorn t&c grinder". It included an air spindle for the machine.

Yes one can build one, they really aren't that hi-tech.

One I built is a bit crude, but it works. Fit it with an R-8 taper, can sharpen anything I can put in my mill that way. Plus I had the collets.

If you want to see crude, look at the cheap grinding fixures that are sold in the catalogs. 2 rings with 3 threaded rods that run on sticks that carry the end mills.
