I too go months at a time working 7 -12 hour shifts per week with 6 hrs sleep (per day) max

Numbers, abstract theorems and physical properties make "Way more sense" to me then the English language ever will and those that master it learn by rote rather then analytical thought. Personally I see much more value in the latter.

Love my job for 1 simple reason - every thing I do is recorded in a computer system that reacts in 22 Msec, records data at the interval rate of .14 sec and the combined computing power of a Cray. Sure fine - don't believe me. I'll print you out an X, Y extrapolated plot that will prove my point and say "Have a nice day" as I'm walking away

For clarity; I also value the knowledge delivered.

This forum to my read has "cleaned up" in recent couple of months. We still seem to have some posts where the political game comes in too quick ... but it is a better read now.

The quality of the posts made by some is awesome. We should all recognise those tombs take quite some putting together and should be valued.

Frankly, Mr. "Jesuit Education" here, just made at least a half dozen uses of the spelling checker and several additional spelling corrections without resorting to it, just in this one post. I can't spell worth a hoot. And I still see the word "newbee" underlined in red above at least two times so that is not even a proper word at all. But it expresses my thought and I am sure that all here will understand it, so it remains.

One thing I do do is to read my posts before posting them. That always produces corrections so I do recommend it.

So, if writing like a third grader is so OK with you, why do you take the time to explain how carefully you work to avoid doing so?

Computers are absolutely unforgiving of spelling and grammatical mistakes, and you are lucky if the compiler catches it and issues a warning, rather than creating a subtle bug. We humans are still superior to computers in our ability to glean content from what would be absolute gibberish to a computer, although pattern recognition and "fuzzy" logic have improved considerably.

Not uuniversally true. Look at the SNOBOL language, almost 100% of what you type in, mistakes, mis-spellings and all will compile, run and produce a result.

I (not we) also enjoy reading about the new and old ways of accomplishing a task. What I don't enjoy is the look down your nose at anyone who isn't old school or isn't willing to take a load of crap just to learn something. It is the uneducated Old School types that hang on to how they were taught like Old Hat that is distasteful to me. Usually they think that because they are really good at what they do everyone around them has to put up with their hollering, cussing and tantrums. That some how their hardness adds to their position. I say get a life and join the real world. Those times are over. The world has moved on to a more knowing manner of conveying knowledge for the most part.
