  • Calling trepanners !

I just inherited an almost new SPI series 8000 trepanning toolholder with several bits. How does a trepanning cut normally end ... does the circle tend to fall out gently, jam the machine or what? I can use any tips or tricks you have for using this thing

I have never used an official trepanning tool, and I am sure that someone else here can help you more then I can. However, I have to cut out lots of disks up to 6" on the lathe. They start life as sawn off squares of plate. I simply stop short of full depth and use pliers to break off the waste portion. I leave a little extra on the diameter to allow for a light clean-up cut. I turn them at a pretty good speed, and have yet to have any trouble.
