  • Any reason I can't remove the index disc on the bottom of this chuck?

It's a 6 1/2" Bison that was on a lathe I bought. Was going to take apart and clean since who knows when last done.

Already removed the index pin mechanism from the lathe since it blocked putting another larger chuck I bought on.

    Thanks,
    Rich

Either there are some hidden bolts somewhere or it's a tight fit with some possible corrosion or dried up oil / coolant that is making separation difficult.

Did you loosen all the "set-tru" screws? They're the socket head screws around the periphery of the chuck body. NOT the scroll (square socket) but the hex socket ones.

If I send you my address you can ship it to me and I'm sure I can figure it out There aren't any screws coming from the back side? Either that or remove one of the SHCS's on the front face of the chuck to see if hey pass all the way hrough to the index plate.
Forty plus years and I still have ten toes, ten fingers and both eyes. I must be doing something right.

Thanks. Probably just stuck. I'd have left it on but don't see a reason to have the chuck hanging further out if this isn't necessary (it looks like an addition and not part of the original chuck).
