I'm going to make an adapter for something which has the above mentioned thread size/ pitch. What size would I bore my stock to before threading ?

    Thanks

2.150. Now I'm saying this without even looking at my Machinery's Handbook. The reason I say this is look at the Metric threads. To find the size needed for any thread size simply sutract the lead of the tyhread. In this case .100"
Forty plus years and I still have ten toes, ten fingers and both eyes. I must be doing something right.

He's right. Machinerys handbook shows the minor diam for an 2.25-10UNS internal thread to be (min/max) 2.142/2.163, so that's nearly in the middle of the tolerance.

        (Nominal major diameter) - (1 / TPI)

        Works every time.

        1/2 - 20?

        1 / 20 = .05. .500 - .05 = .450. .450 tap drill/bore size.

Works for inch and metric, all standard 60-degree V threads.
