A friend of mine just picked up an American lathe, model HMT. From what I have been able to find out the American Lathe Company was bought out and the new company produced this lathe in India. I have 2 questions, the first is, does anyone have any information on this lathe? The second is, it has a change gear setup for English, Metric and Module threading. He asked me what Module threading is and I admit I have no idea. Can anyone explain to me what this is.

If you need to cut a worm that has to match with a gear you need to gear the leadscrew up to do DP pitches [ Diametrical Pitches ]. These are measured in the same DP as the gear to run with, Myford for example are 20 DP.

Module pitches are exactly the same but to run with module gears. Unimat for example are 1Mod.

Talking in generalities Module is a metric DP
    1 Mode = 24.4DP
