Ok, you guys lost me here. I was thinking something like this for the frame.

The 4 uprights will be 6" wide by 3/4" thick. The horizontals would be 12" wide by 3/4" thick.

That will be a VERY impressive press. I'm interpreting " The horizontals would be 12" wide" as 12 inch tall if they are the white members in the picture.

How many tons do you WANT to press? That may be easier to answer.

At the end of the project, there is a profound difference between spare parts and left over parts.

That's pretty much exactly what I pictured as option "B". And I bet with the plate you have it will be very heavy, and much stronger than anything you will want to do (or want to work the lever to pump the press on).

Yes that is correct, the white pieces in the picture will be 12" tall of 3/4" thick material. It will be the same for the pieces across the top. Basically I have 4 pieces of 12" x 48" x 3/4" thick plate, 1 piece of 12" x 36" x 3/4" thick plate, and 8(I think, will have to look at pile) pieces of 6" x 96" x 3/4" thick plate to work with.

I built one out of 1 inch thick. got most measurements off an enerpac press. 6 wide uprights, 12 horizontal enerpac one is a 100 ton press

Yeah, happens here a lot--people go off on a tangent without really answering a question.

That picture you posted is a great design, especially considering the materials you have. A lot of the high-end presses are built that way...
