  • Any Good Salvage Places in Portland Oregon Area??

Recently relocated to Portland and have been looking for salvage places with little luck.

Talking about salvage places that will sell aluminum/brass/bronze/steel scrap, used electrical motors, wiring, industrial junkola, etc... out of the bins or pile.

    Thanks!!

I'm afraid you have come to the party about 30 years too late. If there were such a place it would be way out of the city.

I would dearly love to be wrong.

Macona seems to find some amazing stuff down in Beaverton, though a little more refined than junkola and basic materials.

Clackamas Steel has some odd ball stuff. Most the small stuff is by the pound

Burcham's metals in Albany, OR. has a very complete supply of metals, electronics and mechanical parts. I buy from them all the time.

            Welcome to Portland,

Gizmo's in Hillsboro, it's @ the Cornelius pass exit Northbound off Hwy 26 Westbound. Lots of salvage from the high-tech industry ( not much metal) as Intel is in there neighborhood. Scrap metal's that I know of are not as available, the one place I go is the Steel Yard on Columbia Blvd. NE Portland industrial area near PDX Airport. We do have a Metal's Supermarket but I have not used them as of yet.

Cherry City Metals in Salem (closer to Keizer) has quite a selection, and their prices are better than any other Salem suppliers, in my experience.

Twenty or thirty mile north of Roseburg on the east side of I-5. Can't remember the name but it is a big place.
Also in Roseburg at the north end on the road to the airport. Can't remember his name either. He rebuilds electric motors for the sawmills in the front building, the back two buildings has more metalworking machinery than you can imagine. He has good prices.

Yes, I see they place ads on the Portland Craigslist.
The prices seem awful high for salvaged stuff.
I am used to paying 30cents a lb for salvage steel or cast iron things like gear reducers, hydraulics, compressor pumps, etc. And 35-40 cents for new steel remnants.
Recall seeing a ugly 10hp 3 phase motor Burcham's had on CL for $300 if I recall.
They have a pile of junk on CL listed.

I have been to the Steel Yard in the past when they used to publish a flyer with specials,,,,,, that nobody in the yard or office seemed to know where they were or what was the price. LOL
I guess they gave that up?

Cherry City and Clackamas Steel are on the list.

                  Thanks fellas!!
