I'd turn down the threaded shaft, build it back up with weld, and turn a lh thread on it. Then make the corresponding Lh nut. I can think of quite a few times I wish I had a grinder that spun the opposite direction. I've already got 6 grinders so if I got 2 free and one spun the opposite way, I'd think of it as a blessing in disguise. The electrical how's and why's an AC motor spins backward are beyond my pay grade. Of course your needs may be different.

If you decide to use it, make a pin, bolt or other failsafe device to lock the nut, brush or wheel on so there's no way it will unscrew or you're screwed.

Runs the wrong way? Simple fix...turn the plug over.

All we could guess was it got messed up at the factory somehow.

Seems like that would require the brushes to be moved to the other end as well....

Or you could run it on a battery with a transformer to get the voltage up and swap polarity.
You can't run a battery through a transformer.

Probably the stator is in 180 degrees off.

And if you look REAL close at an analog signal,
You will find that it has discrete steps.

Sheet metal workers working with ventilation pipe often have their grinders changed to run backwards to direct the sparks away. Well, at least they did 25 years ago, I don't know if it's accepted anymore.

Well, you can if you swap polarity frequently enough.

The fix here is simple.... reverse the wires to the brushes. That HAS TO work.

If it did NOT work, that is because it was not done, or not done correctly.
CNC machines only go through the motions
