  • OT buying from AliExpress

Has anyone here had experience with this outfit? Just curious since I ordered a DRO from them. They sent an email saying the item is paid for, and the order is being processed, but so far I cant get any more information from them. Hope I didn't just throw my $$ away to some scam company.

I bought a couple items. It's legit. Bought a DRO too and it takes a little while but not too bad.

AliExpress doesn't sell anything. They're a marketplace like EBay (the retail part of Alibaba).

That said, I've bought lots of electronics from vendors on Aliexpress and have yet to have any problems. Most of the vendors there know just enough English to post their items, so don't expect a lot of coherent back and forth about order status.

Aliexpress holds the money through Escrow until you state you received your order or the time runs out (which you get a notification and can extend it if you haven't received it)
Look up Aliexpress Escrow on Google and it explains it all.

Given a choice between ebay/paypal and Aliexpress, I'll use Aliexpress. I've been burned on ebay and paypal but not on Aliexpress.

Been dealing with them for at least 5-6 years, maybe a bit more, never had any issues.
You should be able to login to see what the status is of your order. It should state when or if the product has been shipped and the number of days you have left before you can claim for an item not received, or if you have received it you can then confirm so in order for the funds to be released to the merchant from Aliexpress Escrow.

I would assume an item like a DRO would also have a tracking number, this should also be displayed on the order status page.

Bought loads of stuff, some quite high priced items, a broken tap burner at about $900 and a cnc router at about $3000 and no problems. As people have said the money is held in escrow and they will do anything to please. Did order a couple of big carbide reamers once that didn't show and the company wouldn't reply so contacted Aliexpress and them immediately refunded the payment. By immediately I mean within half an hour.

I keep one card for purchases that I put the amount on that's needed plus a few pounds extra in case but never had a problem. Waiting for five shipments at the moment but none are overdue

Thanks for all your replies and assurances. I was concerned because the order page doesn't have any product specific info on it. Not even so much as a model number. The status is: "The supplier is processing your order". I suppose that will change when the product is shipped. I had never heard of Aliexpress before now, so it's all a big mystery to me. Dumb butt that I am, I thought I was dealing with the manufacturer. Thanks again to everyone for your help.

Would it be naive to think Alibaba is closer aligned with Amazon than eBay?

I do get a kick out of some items, when they state they can fill orders of 1 to 200,000 per customer. Sometimes the minimum order is fairly high also.

                        Hi,

I bought a couple small pieces from Alibaba. No problems or complaints. I have bought more from BangGood though. Again pain free transactions and all I have ordered is of very good quality.

I agree that they want to be like Amazon more than eBay. The quantities are funny sometimes. But you are often dealing directly with the manufacturer on Alibaba. And they are also trolling for possible distributers and other other manufacturers also.

I've probably purchased 6 or 8 things through AliExpress.

                          All good outcomes so far.

The ten dollar green "10000 mwatt" laser is amazing...

The 10k miliwatts is a lie, but it's definitely more than your normal 5 miliwatt laser.

They have lasers that will pop balloons and light matches too for just over 100 bucks.

By 10000 mwatt they probably mean micro instead of milli. Would that be a function of the language barrier, or planned misleading?
