I had a thread on my homemade rivet power punch last week and the trouble I had. Tossed it. So I made a rivet squeezer. Each pair of forming heads are made from one set screw and one socket head screw, both with a round head machined into the ends. Can't harden them, I suppose they could be case hardened but that is more trouble then needed and they seem to hold up OK. The trick I am trying to perfect is the depth and size of the dimple in each head. To deep or not deep enough and the heads don't form right and it is only 10 or 15 thou. one way or the other. Compressing the rivets too much is also a problem because it squeezes the heads out the side and is compressed into a ring around the rivet head and may leave a "smile" (a mark in the part being riveted, looks like a ")" ) around the head. Bit of experimenting going on but on the whole they are turning out OK.
The squeezer with two sets of "heads" for 1/16" and 3/32" rivets.
A test piece with both sized rivets. Heads are pretty good.
Close up of shaped rivets.
