Okay, 3 out of 3. Going to use them.

So free is a matter of perspective. I paid $35 for 3 boxes of miscellaneous bearings at an estate sale a few years ago. The guy raced motorcycles and worked for a bearing company in the greater Detroit area. 99% new boxed or tube packed, I have at least 8 more of the 6210's. So far the cache has provided a rear bearing for my Logan 10", a set for a 12v blower motor, 1 car Alternator main bearing, and now the sander. I think the lot paid for itself on the Logan rear bearing so I'm calling it free.

The rubber shielded bearings have a lower maximum speed than the metal shielded ones, but this is not going to be a problem at all on a disk sander. So other than the higher drag you should have no problems other than it being better than before!

Substituting 6201 sealed bearing in place of metal shield units

I need to replace two 6201 series bearings on the belt drive end of a 1985 KFF 4x36 belt / 6”disc sander I found at a garage sale last year.

The original 6201’s have metal shields. In my spares I have several new NSK 6201’s that are of the sealed type (silicone?). On the plus side the sealed bearings will be less susceptible to sanding debris, they fit, and they are free to me. Always another side of the coin though.

Other than having a bit of drag from the seals, are there any unforeseen issues with the substitution?
